Workers’ Memorial Day.

Every week in New Zealand 17 workers are killed as a consequence of work. Every 15 minutes, a worker suffers an injury that requires more than a week off work. Every year on 28 April, Workers’ Memorial Day commemorates those working people killed and injured at work.

The day falls on a Sunday this year, so it’s a wonderful opportunity to take your whole family to one of the many events taking place around the country:

Wellington – Sunday 28 April 3pm at Workers’ Memorial Stone – Te Papa Waterfront, followed by a gathering at Shed 22.

Manawatu – Monday 29 April 2024 – noon to 12.50pm at Workers’ Memorial, Memorial Park, Fitzroy St entrance.

Canterbury – Sunday 28 April – gathering at 11.45am for a 12pm start at Memorial Gardens, Gasson St, Sydenham.

Otago – Sunday 28 April 12pm – the Workers’ Memorial in Princes St, followed by a cuppa at the Masonic Centre.
